National Friendship Day

It’s National Friendship Day!!! And the older we get, sometimes, the harder friendship becomes.

This is why:

We schedule appointments. We answer emails.

We care for everyone else. But somewhere along the way…we can stop making time for each other.

I think of friendship as vital medicine for the nervous system.

That’s what I love about tuning into body signals that lets us know what feels balanced and aligned.

Our nervous system adapts in response to other people’s nervous systems and the energy we surround ourselves with.

Published research shows that this coherence expands to a “social coherence” layer. When partners or groups harmonize emotionally and behaviorally, their autonomous heart rhythm patterns physically align. This physiological linkage allows for efficient collective flow and directly lowers stress responses.

Oxytocin—the connection neurotransmitter—is released when we laugh, hug, listen, and feel safe.

I’ve been lucky to surround myself with beautifully strong, capable, smart, and talented women throughout my life who have become dear friends. Each and every one of us has been through challenges in our personal + professional lives, in relationships, and with others.

Celebrate these women today with national friendship day and let them know you are there to support them with grace, love, + empathy…just as much as they have supported you every step of the way!
